FAMILY SUPPORT & PARENT EDUCATION

Family Support and Parent Education Programs help parents build their skills and confidence in providing a nurturing environment for their children. 

These programs offer information, education, and support to families in the community, through: structured groups; child care (children’s programming provided while parents attend selected adult programs); as well as over-the-phone and drop-in support.

ADHD Parent Support Group

As part of our relationship with the ADHD Association of Greater Edmonton, FFRN is pleased to host their monthly parent support group meetings. This meeting is a time for meaningful dialogue and to share deeply about issues related to ADHD that affect your lives and the lives of your children. Whether itís a chance to discuss struggles with school or the pre-diagnostic/treatment process, or an opportunity to share successes your kids have had, we want to hear about your experiences. Brand New Mama is a weekly program that fosters social connections, explores topics related to motherhood, relationships, babies and child development. Y - Digital: Parental Controls

Registration Required. Presented in partnership with YMCA Northern Alberta Y-Digital division | REGISTERED PROGRAM

The digital environment of the modern age has children using technology from a very young age to play games, communicate and learn online. This can leave parents concerned over the safety and privacy of their children, especially if they donít feel as tech-savvy as the youth. In this program, we will explore the logistics of digital family accounts and go over how to enable and use parental controls on several software platforms to ensure your kids can have a safe and secure online experience. Count-to-Ten Anger Management

For adults | Registration Required. $25 program fee | 6 week program | REGISTERED PROGRAM

Parenting can be an emotional roller coaster. At times it is full of joy and love and other times it can be scary, frustrating, and overwhelming. Sometimes you may also feel anger as a parent ñ which is normal. But how you express and manage your anger is the important piece.

If you are interested in learning about anger, how it affects your body and mind, healthy ways to express anger, identifying your anger triggers, and exploring a variety of anger management strategies including communication skills and self-care then this program is for you. This 6-week program is designed to support parents in understanding how anger is affecting their life, and to provide tools to manage anger and allow them to develop a personal Anger Management Plan.

Kids Have Stress Too!

For moms and caregivers prenatal to 2 months post-natal | REGISTERED PROGRAM

All children will experience stress and anxiety at times throughout their lives.  The Kids Have Stress program developed by the Psychology Foundation of Canada is designed to give caregivers the tools they need to understand childrenís stress and promote the development of effective stress management skills and resiliency from a young age. Participants will leave the program with practical child-friendly stress management strategies that can be introduced immediately to positively impact childrenís social and emotional development.

Health for Two Group

For moms and caregivers prenatal to 2 months post-natal | DROP IN

Health for Two is a free program for pregnant women who need extra support to have a healthy pregnancy. The Health for Two group provides information and support on a variety of health topics related to pregnancy and infant care in a safe and welcoming environment. You can also receive resources such as prenatal vitamins, milk coupons, and bus tickets to get to prenatal appointments. Join our nurse and other exciting facilitators to learn, ask questions and meet other expectant moms.

Triple P Group

For parents of children ages 0 - 12 years | REGISTERED PROGRAM

The Positive Parenting Program (Triple P) aims to foster strong parent-child relationships by empowering parents with tips, tools and strategies that encourage appropriate behaviour in their children. This program is aimed at parents of children birth to 12 years, although many of the techniques are recommended from age 2 and up. Triple P Group consists of 4 weekly group sessions, followed 3 weekly phone call sessions to provide 1 ñ 1 support, and finishes with a wrap up group session on the final date.
